Structural Biologist - Remote Contract (Protein Design & AI Evaluation)

About the Role

NeonLabs is collaborating with a leading AI lab to engage highly experienced structural biologists to evaluate frontier AI reasoning in protein design and structural biology.

You will assess how advanced models reason about protein structure, folding, and design, and translate your scientific judgment into rigorous evaluations that shape how these systems perform real research tasks.

This is a remote, flexible contract at the senior end of the field. A PhD or equivalent research experience is required.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate AI-generated reasoning in protein design and structural biology for scientific validity.
• Design challenging problems drawn from real structural biology workflows.
• Identify errors in structural reasoning, methodology, and interpretation of experimental data.
• Write clear, structured scientific feedback that improves model performance.
• Collaborate asynchronously with the research team.

Ideal Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent research experience in structural biology, biochemistry, biophysics, or a closely related field.
• Deep familiarity with protein structure determination and computational protein design.
• Experience critically evaluating scientific reasoning and experimental methodology.
• Strong written communication and attention to detail.
• Native or professional fluency in English.

Compensation & Contract Terms

• Rate: $150 - $220 per hour (USD).
• Type: Independent Contractor.
• Payments: Weekly via Stripe or Wise.
• Schedule: Flexible hours, remote, and asynchronous.
• Contract Duration: Variable based on needs and performance (projects can be extended, shortened, or concluded early).
